Social Studies
Friday was an exciting day. I loved how everyone was involved and really enjoyed being part of the electoral process at St. Nicholas. Some student who were sitting or directing voters to the voting screens wished they could have been more involved. On Monday morning you will be. Students who were assigned to the screens will be handling the ballots from the ballot box. You will be putting the ballots into piles. We will tally the votes using first past the post method and then try ranked voting. I wonder who will be victorious. Who do you think the winners will be for mayor, councillor and Catholic school board trustee?

Math
Grade fours have one more lesson on shape pattern attributes. Grade fives have completed their expectations for patterning. We will have another test on Thursday on patterning. There is one more review game to practice at home. The grade four game was very easy. The grade five game for this weekend was tricky. You will see those questions again (hint, hint). We will be moving onto Geometry on Wednesday.

In fractions we again named fractions as unit fractions, but we learned how we can divide unit fractions into smaller unit fractions. For example if we divide a number line in halves our unit fraction is 1/2. But what is half of 1/2? 1/4.... What is half of 1/4? 1/8. When we do this we clearly see why some fractions are equal or EQUIVALENT to other fractions. Take a look at the fraction strips below. Which unit fractions can be divided into smaller unit fractions? How man 1/8 are there in 3 one fourths (3/4)?

For the second time in a row we have been interrupted doing our linear and area match up. You know what they say...... the third time is a charm!

You have a few assignments on Mathletics.
