NO CROSS COUNTRY MEET TOMORROW

Math
Grade 4s looked at growing patterns. The Action Task was a little tricky. Hopefully doing it as a class helped. When asked for the 50th or 100th term, try to use logic. Set up a table of values (t-char).

For example, the pattern 3, 6, 9, 12.... To find the 30th term, find the rule first. Start at 3 add 3 each time. Next set up a table of values:

Term Number Term Value
           1                3
           2                6
           3                9
           4                12
           5                15

The fifth term is 15. How many terms between 5 and 30? 25. If your pattern grows by 3, then the pattern will grow by 25 x 3 = 75. So the value of the term will be 15 + 75 = 90.

Grade 5s  practiced organizing tables in a t-chart. Look for patterns down and across the t-chart.

For 8, 14, 20, 26, 32

Set up a t-chart:

Term Number Term Value
            1                8
            2               14
            3               20
            4               26
            5               32

Do you see the pattern rule going ACROSS the t-chart? It's much faster than continuing the t-chart to the 10th term.

What do you do to 1 to get 8?
What do you do to 2 to get 14

Your pattern is increasing by 6 each time, but it does not begin at a multiple of 6. 8 is 2 more than 6. So the rule across the chart is Term Number x 6 + 2 = Term Value.

E.g. 4 x 6 + 2 = 26 So the tenth term would be 10 x 6 + 2 = 62

Physical Education
We began our unit on Volleyball with volleying. Correct positioning is very important.

Religion
Today we reviewed 5 important ideas that we have discussed during our first unit. Please make sure you answer the questions below in complete sentences.

Learning Skills

Our learning skill for this week is RESPONSIBILITY.

  • I can follow classroom rules and routines independently
  • I can complete my work neatly and on time
  • I can do my weekly job without reminders
  • I can come to class with all the materials I need to work
  • I can take ownership for by behaviour
  • I can take care of the classroom and school environment

Make sure the goal you set is specific and one that you need to work on.

Social Studies
Today we looked at how a municipality might spend money. Think about services. Which one do you think is more important. Think about reasons to support your opinion. Lastly, how would you spend $100? How would it look different than the one below in your textbook? Remember, you must keep an $18 other amount. We will complete this exercise tomorrow.

Reminders:
  • Canned food drive all week. Thank you to students who have brought in non-perishable food to support those in need.
  • Library tomorrow
  • Mass on Thursday morning at St. George
  • Turkey BINGO on Friday.
