Math
Today we studied shrinking patterns. Making predictions (what would be the 50th or 100th) term was a bit of a challenge. Remember, repeated addition is multiplication and repeated subtraction in division.

Please correct assignments in your yellow math notebook.
Grade 4: Repeating Patterns Action Task, Repeating Patterns Your Turn Questions, Patterns in Tables (textbook)
Grade 5: Shape Patterns Action Task, Shape Patterns Your Turn Questions, Patterns in Tables (textbook)

Religion
Today we placed sacramentals on our prayer table. We have two more to place tomorrow....
Make sure you are able to answer the following questions....

  • Who is part of the Church?
  • How is the Church both human and divine?
  • How does thinking of ourselves as the Body of Christ help us become one?
  • Why do we have sacred places?
  • What sacramentals do you have in your sacred place to help you feel closer to God?
Literacy
Our reading strategy today was main idea and monitoring comprehension There is often two part to main idea. What information the text is giving you and what the author wants you to learn from reading the text.

Listing important words often helps us determine important ideas.

Science
Today we began our first Science unit, Sound Energy. We kicked off the unit by recognizing that sounds are everywhere around us and it is important to be safe around loud sounds. Today's read aloud had a lot of information so monitoring comprehension was important. When we monitor comprehension or check for understanding, we stop and ask ourselves:
"What information have I learned?"
"What questions do I have?"
"Have I understood all the important words?"

What do you think was the main idea of the read aloud? Remember, main idea is not a summary. Think about what the text was mostly about and what message the author was trying to give us.

Some vocabulary words: sound waves, vibrations, echolocation, decibel
