Math
Today we reviewed making equations and writing word problems to match equations. This is what you should have done with your group (grade 4).

Equation: 56 - b = 27

Word Problem:
Carter has 56 books. He has 27 more books than Danielle. How many books does Danielle have?

Meaning of Each Term:

56 = Number of books in total
27 = Number of more books Carter has
b   = Number of books Danielle has

Answer:

56 - b= 27
       b = 29

Danielle has 29 books

In grade five we wrote EXPRESSIONS to solve problems. For example:

Jacob plays video games for 45 minutes each days. Write an expression to show how many video games he plays in any number of days.

45 x v is the expression (no equal sign)

We can use the expression to solve the for any number of days. How many minutes does he play in 5 days?

45 x 5 = 225 minutes

Try these:

Make sure you complete your homework questions grade five. We will do a bit of review this week, but that is pretty much the end of Algebra. We can have a test this week or we can wait for next week.

Social Studies
In grade four we talked about the roles of mean, women and children in Ancient Rome and Judea. What did you find interesting? Would you want to be a child in Ancient Rome or Judea? Here is the United Nations website we made reference to today.

In grade five we talked about First Nations Spirituality. Here is a summary of the Seven Grandfather Teachings:

Honesty is represented by a raven or Sabe. Kitch-Sabe is a giant who walked the Earth to remind people to be honest.

The Seven Grandfather Teachings are very similar to our virtues. They are inline with our Catholic values.
