Math
Today we began discussing area. Area is the number of square units needed to cover a surface or 2-D shape. We used base-ten blocks to estimate and calculate the area of different surfaces and screens. One flat is 100 square centimetres, 1 rod is 10 square centimetres and 1 small block is 1 square centimetre.

We also used our results to find how many of one screen surface would cover another screen surface.

So when someone tells you something has an area of 40 square centimetres, think of 4 rods. That's how much space it covers.

How did you find out how many of one screen fits onto another? DIVIDE. You are taking the larger screen and dividing into parts that are the same area as the smaller screen. You can also do it using base-ten blocks or the actual screen.

For example:

You can fit about 7.5 cell phones on this MacBook screen.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO STUDY YOUR TIMES TABLES.
Thank you to students who have been studying.

What parts of the body did we compare these object to?

Our first topic will be cells..... there are TRILLIONS of cells in your body..... how many zeros in a trillion?
