Math
Today we applied our adding and subtracting money skills to solve some problems. Not only do you have to know different ways to add and subtract money, but you must also be able to work backwards. Great question in grade 5 today. Here is a similar question:

If you used 2 bills to pay for two items, and got back $9.75, what might be the cost of the two items?

The first thing to do is choose two bills.

I give $30.00 and get back $9.75 what was the cost of my purchases?

$30.00 - $9.75 will give me the cost of the two items.

I will subtract in chunks:

30.00 - 9.00 = 21.00
21.00 - 0.75 = $20.25

I can choose an two numbers that add to $20.25

$10.00  and $10.25 (easiest)
$9.00 and $11.25

Grade 4:

What might be the cost of two items if you paid with $30.00 and got back $6.45?

Use the change to find the cost of the two items, then find two numbers that add to that number.

$30.00 - $6.00 = $24.00
$24.00 - $0.45 = $23.55

Choose any two numbers that add to $23.55

$10.00 and $13.55 (easiest)

Literacy
What kind of person was Hannah? Many of you came up with some excellent words to describe her personality including selfless, courageous and optimistic. When you are answering a "character" question you must use APE format. The character trait is your inference. You must then look in the text and find proof to support the trait. After the trait you explain how your proof supports the trait. Remember author's reveal the personality of characters through their words, actions and thinking.

Traits do not change. Emotions do change. Do not confuse emotions with character traits.

Religion
We reviewed the two sacraments of healing, reconciliation and anointing of the sick. Some of you were surprised at the kinds of actions and words considered sinful. When we receive these sacraments our spirit, emotions and to some extent, our bodies are healed.
