Math
We will be leaving measurement for a few weeks and doing some addition and subtraction with an emphasis on money. Your Mathletics assignments are related to addition and subtractions including some mental math strategies. We have given our mental math strategies different names, so click on the "i" in the right hand corner to watch a video for help.

Some practice with making change:
https://www.funbrain.com/games/change-maker
https://mathup.ca/Games/Grade4/ShoppingWithCash

Grade 4 you must be able to read, write and add /subtract money amounts to $100.00
Grade 5 you must be able to read, write and add / subtract money amounts to $1000.00

You can start practicing by using different bills and coins to make different values.
Grade 4: How many different ways can you make $12.65
Grade 5: How many different ways can you make $208.70

How can you make $75.80 using 6 bills and 5 coins?

Review of Canadian bills and coins (I'm still fond of the penny):

We don't really use the $.50 coin. The penny isn't used anymore.......

It's important to understand the different ways we can express money. We can show money in cent notation or dollar notation.

For example sixty cents is 60¢ or $0.60

The cent sign ¢ is written to the right of the number and the dollar sign $ is written to the left.

285 ¢ is $ 2.85

two hundred and eight-five cents is two dollars AND eight-five cents

Remember to say AND for the decimal. Money is another ways to show decimal hundredths because there are 100 cents in 1 dollar.

¢  is $ 0.01 (one cent is one hundredths of a dollar)

Health
Most students are done the summary of the nutrient values on their "rainbow" plate of food. If you are not sure of the nutrients and the importance of the nutrients to the body of your chosen foods, please research the answers to help you complete your summary without access to the Internet.

Share some of the new guidelines with your family:

Science
From our investigation of reflecting light we determined that light, bright, shiny and flat materials reflect light better than dark, rough, dull materials. Rough materials SCATTER the light and dark colours ABSORB the light. Here is the link to the Bill Nye video:
