Math
Most students have a good understanding of how to change or convert one number to another.
Complete a few more pages of the booklet.

The grade 4 action task took some reasoning skills to estimate. These are very important. For example:

If Megan measured 10 giant steps to be 738 cm, estimate the length of  one giant step. To get 1 step you would divide 738 by 10. Since this is an estimate, about how many groups of 10 are there in 738? Well, 738 is about 740. There are 74 groups of ten in 740 so each giant step would be about 74 cm.
You can also use your knowledge of how a decimal moves when you divide by 10, 100 and 1000. This is more grade 5, but it's good to know.

When we divide by 10, the decimal moves one to the left. Dividing makes the number smaller. If you were being precise, the length of one giant step would be 73.8 cm. Remember the decimal is always to the right of the ones place. If there are no parts of whole, we do not write the decimal.

Grade 5 your task was to measure string lengths using a 30 cm ruler. If you are able to explain how you completed a task, chances are you understood the task.

After bell work you will be given some time to complete the rest of these tasks.

Tomorrow we will focus on choosing the most appropriate unit for measuring length, height or distance and see how the number changes depending on the unit we are using. It actually isn't the decimal that is moving, it's the digits in the place values.

There are a few Mathletics assignments for the week.

Phys. Ed.
Today we started gymnastics. Make sure you have your hair tied back and t-shirt and shorts throughout the unit. We practiced traveling, rolling, balancing and jumping. Safety is of utmost importance during this unit.

Science
How are light and sound the same? How are they different? What did you learn about light today? So far we know that there are natural and artificial sources of light. Can you name five of each?

Remember, light is energy you can see whereas sound is energy you can hear.
Does light need to travel through a medium (solid, liquid or gas)?

Halum this is the answer to your question:

By definition, ultraviolet light is 'beyond violet light' and the visible spectrum that can be detected by the human eye. It cannot, therefore, be seen directly. Detectors that are sensitive to UV convert it into a form that we can see. ... In this scenario, however, UV light is being emitted, not received.

Don't forget to bring a flashlight for tomorrow!
