Math
Our next topic in geometry is coordinates and grids. This should be very fun and fairly simple. Grade fours we discussed how to locate an object on a grid using coordinates. Remember.... the x-coordinate (horizontal axis) is written first and the y-coordinate (vertical axis) is written second. Sometimes we use the spaces or squares in a grid and sometimes we use the lines. Make sure you understand both. Tomorrow grade fives will join our discussion with an extra twist.... cardinal directions.

The first game uses positive and negative coordinates, but the principle is the same. Find the x-coordinate, then the y-coordinate.

Grade fives if you understand all your Your Turn questions on triangles, you should be fine for the test.

Please see list of topics for test on previous post.

Religion
We continued our discussion of the Bible. Today we talked about how there are different kinds of writings in the Bible. The Book of Psalms are songs, Proverbs are words of wisdom. Some of the Bible describes historical events. No matter what the text form, the Bible teaches us about God and our relationship with Him. The readings proclaimed during the Liturgy of the Word are explained by the priest or deacon during the HOMILY. The first reading is usually from the Old Testament while the second reading is from the New Testament (not a gospel). The Gospel is of course from Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. The readings rotate on a cycle. There is an A, B and C cycle. Do you remember which books are read during each cycle? What is special about the Gospel of John?

We also discussed the Feast of Christ the King which is celebrate the week before Advent begins. What and where is the Kingdom of God? The obvious answer is in heaven and that is true, but it is more than that. It is a place, a time, a condition in the past, present or future. It is the time we help those in need or fight for injustices. It is the place where everyone loves and is loved. It is a condition whose symptoms are peace, justice and love. It is here on Earth now and in the future. Let those words guide your actions.....
