Math
We completed Your Turn questions for reflections. How does a shape change when you reflect it? It is pointing in a different direction (orientation). How does a shape not change when you reflect it? It is congruent (same size and shape).

Remember the link between symmetry and reflections. A line of symmetry is a line of reflection and a reflected shape creates a symmetrical design.

Fraction Friday
We reviewed linear representations of proper and improper fractions / mixed numbers. We practiced showing improper fractions and mixed numbers using area models (pattern blocks). Some extra practice:

Remember the denominator is the number of parts in a whole. The numerator is the number shaded.

Reading
Practice reading your book for WEDNESDAY (Many students were away on Friday and did not get their books). Test breakdown:
  • 10 multiple choice questions
  • What are 3 features of informational texts in this book? Explain them and give a specific example from the book.
  • How do you know this book is non-fiction writing?
  • What are the most important words in _________ (one section / subtopic)? Use them to write the MAIN IDEA (what the reader will learn after reading) of the section in three or less sentences. You can use the headings to help, but you must include a bit more.

DO NOT FORGET YOUR BOOK AT HOME ON WEDNESDAY!

Reminders:
  • Christmas Concert Tuesday @ 6:30 pm. Please let me know if you cannot attend.
  • Permission forms for "The Grinch" on Thursday.
  • Decorations for our Christmas tree.
